90 Day Fiancé: Usman Reveals The Real Meaning Behind His Name ‘Sojaboy’

Returning 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star, Usman Umar has finally solved the mystery behind the origins of his rapper name Sojaboy. Although Usman has featured in just one spin-off of 90 Day Fiancé so far, he quickly became famous thanks to his trainwreck relationship with Lisa “Babygirl” Hamme. Lisa, 20 years older than Usman, went to Nigeria to marry him in B90 season 4 but the couple soon divorced and he’s now in love with his new girlfriend Kim. But many fans accuse Usman of being a scammer who used Lisa for a Green Card and TLC for fame. And then there are some who claim that Sojaboy is also a copied name.

American woman Lisa, who was reportedly asked to leave 90 Day Fiancé is now happily married to her childhood best friend. But Usman doesn’t seem to have had any luck in love so far, as the 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days previews tease that Kim is just as jealous as Lisa. Although Usman insists that he loves Kimberly from his bones, he’s also admitted that he was the one who applied to be on 90 Day Fiancé all over again. After all, the show launched Usman’s career as Sojaboy and Kim is one of the millions of fangirls he made after his reality TV stint.

In a recent interview with ET, Sojaboy revealed a lot of secrets about his life including what inspired his musician name that’s so similar to popular American rapper Soulja Boy. According to Usman, when he started using the name Sojaboy, he didn’t even know about the “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” creator. “Because in Africa, rapping doesn’t last,” Usman explained. He added that they love music that one can dance to in the club, like Afrobeat. He added that while rapping “exists” it doesn’t end up “making it that big.” As per Usman, “The reason why I got the name Sojaboy was because I have two brothers in the army.”

Usman revealed that another brother of his is in the police. They all have the same mom and same dad. “I was like, if I am going to be an artist, let me use Sojaboy,” Usman shared. While admitting that Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, is big, and good, the 32-year-old reality TV star Usman tried to exaggerate that his name “is not Soulja for soldier.” Usman further mentioned, “His name is like soul, like, S-O-U-L. It’s soul for the heart, mine is soldier for the military.” He gently asked 90 Day Fiancé viewers to check the spelling of Soulja Boy’s name for proof.

I am repping the name because I have a lot of brothers that are military and I get inspired by that,” he added in conclusion. Regardless, Usman doesn’t hesitate in admitting that TLC and Sharp Entertainment are the biggest things in his life. He doesn’t deny that becoming a 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star has helped Sojaboy further his fame. In that case, will his new storyline with Kim help Usman get both a Green Card and a bigger name?
