90 Day Fiancé: Why Fans Think Mahogany Is A Catfish Like Williams

Ben Rathbun and Mahogany are one of the upcoming couples on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days and their storyline already feels familiar to viewers. They are being compared to another 90 Day Fiancé couple Yolanda Leak and her catfish boyfriend Williams. Fans suspect that Mahogany is nothing more than another catfish, and if that’s the case, they’re bored already.

Season 5 of Before the 90 Days introduced several new couples in the first episode, but Ben and Mahogany have yet to make their franchise debut. Ben is a fitness enthusiast with a very religious background from Michigan who is head-over-heels for Mahogany, a girl from Peru who he met online. Mahogany supposedly noticed some of his fitness modeling photos and DM’d him, igniting a passionate online romance. However, from the previews of this season, Ben’s friends are concerned and suspicious that Mahogany is not who she says she is.

There are several signs that back up Ben’s friends’ suspicions, including the fact that the couple has never video chatted during all the time they’ve been together. It seems the bulk of their interaction has been through text, and even on the show, there have been photos of her but no video footage or interviews. There’s also a whopping 28-year age difference between Ben and Mahogany, and she could have ulterior motives for being in a relationship with him. Mahogany reportedly messaged Ben first, and she might have singled him out for a purpose.

This wouldn’t be the first time someone targeted a cast member with a romance scam as a catfish and pretended to be a made-up person. Yolanda experienced the same thing with a Nigerian scammer named “Williams” on another season of Before the 90 Days. But this could also be a David Murphey and Lana situation, where Mahogany is a real person but is still scamming Ben. Ben is very religious and may not be thinking clearly because he feels their relationship is divine. Either way, there are a lot of red flags in this relationship, and it’s entirely possible that Mahogany is keeping some very big secrets from Ben.

If Mahogany really is a scammer, fans may grow tired of Ben’s journey quickly. 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days viewers don’t typically follow the franchise for catfish storylines because they feel boring. There are several tell-tale signs of catfish and scam artists, so fans quickly figure out what’s probably going on, and the whole thing just seems obvious. Hopefully, there’s more to Ben and Mahogany’s relationship than what fans suspect, but if there isn’t, their storyline could be a dud.
